Liver Functions in Congestive Heart Failure

Abstract
Liver function tests were done in 105 cases of mitral valve diseases to study their relations to the severity of heart failure, venous pressure and renal functions. There were significant decreases in total serum proteim, albumin and cholesterol ester as well as a significant increase, in serum bilirubin in patients with advanced heart failure or with markedly elevated venous pressure. In the former, it was also noted that positivity of flocculation tests and SGOT activity were significantly increased. However, no relations were found between liver functions and renal functions as determined by the levels of blood urea nitrogen or serum creatinine.
